Comprising one continent, five major regions, and 54 countries, Africa is comprised of communities which are bound by a shared destiny. In this installation to celebrate the World Water Forum, each country is represented by a totem that places it within a major region and alongside its neighbors, with whom it shares challenges related to geography, culture, and water use. At the heart of this African village lies a large stage, at the center of which a great tree symbolizes the African tradition of dialogue, exchange, and community. This African village is also a sonic and musical journey through the various regions and the rhythmic, harmonic, and melodic musical traditions of each country. The soundtrack, created for the World Water Forum, is a true concert of nations—an invitation to travel that allows visitors to discover the continent in all its richness and diversity.
