At the heart of the Supercontinent project lies the conviction that Africa is not merely a territory, but a work in progress—a project through which we can reinvent a new way of living, working, and existing in the world. Supercontinent is the first anchor point of this project in Paris, a city that has long been one of the epicenters of Africa’s diverse cultures.
Located in the 19th arrondissement along the Périphérique, the project is a porous yet distinct vertical village for cultural exchange, invention, and dissemination. Supercontinent is an urban fragment, an island organized like a village, with its houses, streets, and square. The programmatic composition of Supercontinent is not a juxtaposition of fixed, discrete spaces, but an articulation of uses that flow from one space to another. We want to leave room for indeterminacy, for what has not yet been conceived or formulated and may emerge here. This approach to hybrid uses rather than predefined spaces defines the project: a place that breaks down the barriers between disciplines and practices. Supercontinent is a composition of multiple, complex, open, and intertwined usages.
